The Pro Bowl is back in Hawaii this year after last year’s ill-fated experiment to play it in the Super Bowl host city the week before the Super Bowl.
The NFL’s version of their All-Star game had been played in Honolulu from 1980-2009 and had become a tradition of sorts. Both fans and players were not pleased with the site change.
Last year’s game, played in Miami the week before the Super Bowl, was sparsely attended. The league will continue to hold the game the Sunday in-between the conference championships and the Super Bowl as opposed to the week after the Super Bowl.
Many players, team personnel and execs are happy to be back in Honolulu, where they can mix business and pleasure. One player said, ” I can always go to Florida.”
From the Giants perspective, they have four players representing them at the game. On offense, G Chris Snee will start. LB Zak DeOssie will be the long snapper. On defense, Antrel Rolle will start at free safety and Justin Tuck will be a reserve at defensive end.
C Shaun O’Hara was voted to the Pro Bowl, but he is in the midst of having several surgical procedures this off-season and was replaced by Carolina’s Ryan Kalil.
Atlanta’s Mike Smith is the head coach for the NFC squad, while Bill Bellichick guides the AFC stars. Kickoff is tonight at 7pm ET on FOX.
