If there's one thing clear in Green Bay, it's the fact that this Packers team doesn't have many needs.
Coming off a Super Bowl victory during a season which featured 15 players being placed on IR, it's clear this team is loaded with talent across the board.
So where does a team with so much depth go during the draft?
Well, one option that's been thrown around has been trading several picks in order to move up the board and address one of the Packers few needs with a bang- outside linebacker.
One player that looks like he will be a top five pick is Von Miller, and he is exactly what the Packers are looking for.
He couldn't fit in more perfectly as an outside linebacker in the 3-4 system.
Now, some of you may be wondering how outside linebacker is a need when we have Clay Matthews.
Well, it's simple really. As much as us Packer fans like to believe that Frank Zombo and Erik Walden and Brad Jones are all good players, the fact is that when you're playing opposite somebody as talented as Clay Matthews at outside linebacker, your job really isn't that difficult.
That's not to take anything away from Zombo, Walden, or Jones, but the fact is that if the Green Bay Packers put somebody of Von Miller's talent level opposite Clay Matthews, then it's almost scary to even begin to ponder just how lethal the Green Bay Packers pass rush would be.
But now that we've addressed why Miller would fit in, let's talk about the real question: Would Ted Thompson ever trade several draft picks to move into the top five?
If you look back at Thompson's track record, he's never really been a big fan of moving up the board. In fact, he's always preferred to move down the board and collect draft picks.
However, just two years ago he saw a kid from Southern Cal that he wanted and didn't hesitate to make his move up the board to pick him. That kids name was Clay Matthews, and he's now an All-Pro.
Whether or not the Packers will trade up for Von Miller remains to be seen, but I'll tell you one thing right now and it's something you can take to the bank: If Ted Thompson is willing to trade up for Von Miller, he's going to be a superstar.
Because trust me, Ted Thompson doesn't move up the board for just anyone.
